History of the Apple Chimichanga:

The origin of chimichanga is said to come from Mexico, but its specific origin is unclear. One theory suggests that it was born in Tucson, Arizona when a cook accidentally dropped a burrito into the fryer. However, regardless of where it came from, one thing is for sure, it has become a popular dish in Mexican-American cuisine.

Apple chimichanga is a sweet twist on the savory dish that is usually filled with meat and beans. It is a delicious dessert that is perfect for any occasion!

Tips and Tricks for Apple Chimichanga Recipe:

  • Use Granny Smith apples for a tart flavor, or Honeycrisp apples for a sweeter taste.
  • Be sure to cut the apples into small cubes so that they cook evenly and create a soft filling.
  • Adding a pinch of salt to the filling enhances the flavor of the apples and balances the sweetness of the dish.
  • To keep the tortillas from breaking during frying or baking, wrap them tightly and seal the edges with water or egg wash.
  • If you are short on time, you can use a store-bought apple pie filling instead of making it from scratch.

Tips for presenting the dish:

  • Serve the apple chimichanga hot with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream on top.
  • Drizzle caramel sauce or honey over the chimichanga for extra sweetness and flavor.
