This caramel frosting is delicious. I have had this recipe for over 30 years. Cream may be substituted for the milk to add richness.
- butter : 2 Tbsp
- packed brown sugar : 0.5 cup
- milk, or more as needed : 3 Tbsp
- confectioners' sugar : 1 cup
- vanilla extract : 0.5 tsp
Stages of cooking
Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir in brown sugar and 3 tablespoons milk. Boil vigorously for 1 minute.
Remove from heat and stir in 1/2 cup confectioners' sugar. Cool slightly, then beat in vanilla and remaining 1/2 cup confectioners' sugar. Add more milk if mixture is too thick.
