Frito pie is a standby appetizer that is perfect for football season, and can be customized by swapping ingredients.

Ingredients

  • ground beef: 0.5 pound
  • water: 0.25 cup
  • tomato paste: 1 Tbsp
  • chili powder: 1 Tbsp (to taste)
  • ground cumin: 0.5 tsp
  • onion powder: 0.25 tsp
  • garlic powder: 0.25 tsp
  • chili beans: 0.25 cup
  • onion: 0.25 cup (or as needed, diced)
  • Jalapeno: 0.25 cup (to taste, sliced)
  • sharp Cheddar cheese: 1 cup (or as needed)
  • bag corn chips, such as Fritos® Scoops!®: 1 piece (9.25 ounce)

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook and stir ground beef in the hot skillet until browned and crumbly, 5 to 7 minutes. Drain and discard grease. Stir in water, tomato paste, chili powder, cumin, onion powder, and garlic powder. Stir in beans; cook until heated through, about 3 minutes.

  2. Divide corn chips into 4 bowls, top with the chili mix, then sprinkle with diced onions, jalapeño slices, and Cheddar cheese. Serve immediately.
