There's a lot of love in those dumplings! This is comfort food at its best and so worth the time and effort. I love the ohhs, awws, and OMGs, smiles, and sighs of total satisfaction that come with this bowl of heaven.

  • ribs celery, quartered: 2 piece
  • carrot, quartered: 1 piece
  • onion: 1 piece (chopped)
  • garlic: 1 tsp (mashed)
  • bay leaves: 2 piece
  • thyme: 0.5 tsp (dried)
  • salt: 0.5 tsp
  • ground black pepper: 0.5 tsp
  • poultry seasoning: 0.125 tsp
  • bone-in chicken breasts: 2 pound
  • water to cover:
  • self-rising flour (such as White Lily®): 2 Tbsp
  • self-rising flour (such as White Lily®): 2 cups
  • shortening: 0.25 cup (cold)
  • chicken broth, slightly chilled: 0.25 cup
