This beef stroganoff recipe with sour cream is rich and creamy. It uses a roux to create a beef gravy thickened with sour cream and cream cheese. A little bit of zip is added with pepper flakes. Serve over egg noodles.

Ingredients

  • beef chuck roast, cut into 1/2-inch thick strips: 2 piece (2 pound)
  • red wine: 0.5 cup
  • salt: 1 tsp (to taste)
  • ground black pepper: 0.5 tsp (to taste)
  • extra-virgin olive oil: 1 Tbsp
  • butter: 0.5 cup (divided)
  • onion: 1 piece (diced)
  • garlic: 3 clove (minced)
  • mushrooms: 1 cup (sliced)
  • all-purpose flour: 0.25 cup
  • ⅓ cups beef stock: 1 piece
  • Worcestershire sauce: 1 Tbsp
  • red pepper flakes: 2 tsp (crushed)
  • prepared yellow mustard: 1 tsp
  • cream cheese: 1 pack (3 ounce pack, softened)
  • sour cream: 0.33333 cup

  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Stir in beef; cook and stir until browned, 5 to 7 minutes. Transfer beef to a plate, then drain any remaining grease from the skillet.
