This ground sausage and cabbage dish is a huge hit at potluck suppers. You can adjust the spiciness to your own palate. I also think it just gets better the next day!

Ingredients

  • spicy bulk pork sausage: 1 pound
  • lean ground beef: 1 pound
  • tomatoes: 1 can (28 ounce can, diced)
  • onion: 1 piece (chopped)
  • tomato paste: 1 can (6 ounce can)
  • distilled white vinegar: 2 Tbsp
  • chili powder: 2 tsp
  • salt: 0.5 tsp
  • red pepper flakes: 0.25 tsp (to taste)
  • cabbage: 10 cups (shredded)

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook and stir sausage and beef in the hot skillet until browned and crumbly, 7 to 10 minutes; drain and discard grease.

  2. Stir diced tomatoes, onion, tomato paste, vinegar, chili powder, salt, and red pepper flakes into sausage mixture. Fold in cabbage. Reduce heat to medium-low and cook, stirring occasionally, until cabbage is tender, 20 to 25 minutes.
