This sweet and sour meatball recipe came from my mother-in-law. I got it shortly after I was married and now it is a favorite of our kids. I like to serve it over rice.

Ingredients

  • ground beef: 1 pound
  • dry bread crumbs: 1 cup
  • onion: 1 piece (chopped)
  • egg: 1 piece
  • salt and pepper: (to taste)
  • brown sugar: 1 cup
  • water: 1 cup
  • ketchup: 0.5 cup
  • cider vinegar: 0.5 cup
  • soy sauce: 2 Tbsp
  • cornstarch: 2 Tbsp

  1. Make meatballs: Mix beef, bread crumbs, onion, egg, salt, and pepper together in a large bowl until well combined. Dotdash Meredith Food Studios

  3. Cook meatballs in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat until evenly browned and cooked through. Dotdash Meredith Food Studios

  4. Make sauce: Mix brown sugar, water, ketchup, vinegar, soy sauce, and cornstarch together in a medium bowl until smooth.
