Slow cooker pinto beans are tender, delicious, and easy! I developed this fabulous crockpot recipe after finding too many hard, uncooked beans after cooking in a pot on the stove.

Ingredients

  • pinto beans: 1 pound (dried)
  • Black Forest ham: 1 pound (cubed)
  • medium onion: 1 piece (chopped)
  • medium green bell pepper: 0.75 piece (diced)
  • medium celery ribs: 2 piece (chopped)
  • garlic: 3 clove (chopped)
  • oregano: 1 Tbsp (to taste, dried)
  • lard: 1 Tbsp
  • ground cumin: 1 tsp (to taste)
  • bay leaves: 2 piece
  • chicken broth, or as needed to cover: 5 cups
